Traditional Medicine
Traditional medicine is a seasoned healthcare system based on observational studies of the natural world. It offers holistic and non-invasive strategies to correcting both acute and chronic health issues, as well as offering sensible long-term health advice.
Treatment strategies, first and foremost, are focused around healthy lifestyle practices: Nutrition, movement, social and environmental relationships, rest, and mindset. In complex cases, various specialized treatments are also utilized as needed: Herbal prescription, medical massage, acupuncture, therapeutic exercise, nutritional guidance, healthy lifestyle coaching, etc.
Taiji Quan
The word Taiji is a philosophical term that symbolizes the movements of life, nature, time, and space. It’s the continuous ebb and flow of change. In the context of this practice, the philosophical principles of Taiji are explored through a sophisticated and mindful movement practice called Taiji Quan (Quan means ‘fist’ or ‘shadowboxing’) that embodies principles of martial arts, the fundamental physiology of traditional medicine, and the deep insights of Chinese philosophy.
Great!
For those of you wondering, and brave enough to inquire, yes I do run a traditional medicine clinic. I offer in-home service in the Greater Toronto area, although also have an office located around Dufferin and Hw 401. As well, when the moon is in exactly the right place, and when the sandhill crane calls out, I have been known to teach Taiji Quan and other forms of traditional self cultivation. Admittedly this is an irregular offering, but it does happen, so starting your own training in these practices under my cruel tutelage is always a possibility. Courses and workshops also pop up from time to time, some in-person, some virtual. Sign up to Tea-Drunk Ramblings to stay in the loop.
Feel free to reach out if you have any questions, to schedule a phone consultation, or book a session.
